Carpal tunnel pain relief
and steroids

Steroid pills (or oral steroids) are pills that can give you carpal tunnel pain relief. They are not the same kind of steroids used by bodybuilders. However, this type of carpal tunnel treatment appears to be very effective in giving short-term pain relief of carpal tunnel symptoms.

Three combined studies showed that 2 weeks of oral steroids (AKA-Medrol) gave significant relief of carpal tunnel symptoms when compared to the placebo group.

There is only limited information about the long term effects of oral steroids for carpal tunnel treatment.

In one study using 2 and 4 week treatments with up to 20mg per day of oral prednisolone (Pred-niss-alone) or Medrol, patients showed clinical and electrodiagnostic improvement for up to 12 months. In another study, patients were given medrol pills 25mg/day for 10 days and they showed symptom improvement and carpal tunnel relief for up to 8 weeks.

In getting carpal tunnel pain relief oral steroid pills, however, were less effective than steroid injections.

In a placebo-controlled trial that evaluated patients with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome with 2 weeks treatment of oral medrol pills (20 mg daily for 7 days, followed by 10mg/day for 7 more days) was associated with significant carpal tunnel relief, but the benefit gradually waned over 8 weeks of observation

Steroid pills can be a very effective carpal tunnel treatment at least for the short-term.
